Welcome to Pekin, Illinois. Pekin is a community of over33,000 centrally located
in the west central portion of the state, midway between Chicago and St. Louis
(being about 165 miles / 264 km. from each) and is the County seat for Tazewell
County. Situated just 10 miles to the south of Peoria the Pekin-Peoria MSA
contains a population of over 350,000.
Pekin enjoys a solid economic base, home to many industrial and
manufacturing jobs and the corporate office for one the largest Ethanol
Facilities in the Nation. Thanks in part to a very successful city owned
Business Park and a highly skilled labor force; Pekin is ideally situated, as it
has ready access to all forms of transportation – highway, rail, air, motor
freight and water.
Nestled along the banks of the Illinois River, Pekin’s topography
is marked by river bluffs, gently rolling terrain and mature wooded areas. Our
community is blessed with state-of-the-art medical facilities and hospital. An
expansive 2,500 acre park system, and an unequaled educational system featuring
public elementary schools, public middle schools, one public high school and
private schools. Post secondary educational learning opportunities
with Illinois Central College and within a one hour commute of Bradley
University, Illinois State University, Illinois Wesleyan University, University
of Illinois and University of Illinois School of Medicine.
If you're looking for a community to expand or start a business, or just want to
enjoy the scenic riverfront, historic downtown, our 4 Championship golf courses,
great dining, shopping or the perfect place to retire, Pekin offers something
for everyone.
