Recycling

THANK YOU for considering to recycle in Pekin!!

If you have questions on the recycling program a FAQ is located here.

Each week, city crews pick up garbage for over 11,000 residential units.  Of those units, approximately 60% recycle.  Your participation will help to improve that statistic.

Recycling has many benefits (see box at right).  It also helps create more efficiency by: 1) lowering costs that are paid to dump solid waste/garbage at the landfill; 2) reducing transportation costs to haul garbage to the landfill; and 3) integrating more automation into the solid waste collection process so that city employees can stay healthier (by not lifting heavy bins).

But maybe you already knew that! That’s why you’re here!  So let’s get to it. The Sign-Up form is below.

NOTE: There will be no additional charge to your monthly collection fees. However, if you agree to sign up below, you will make a one-time purchase of $20 (billed on your wastewater billing in October or November) to cover the cost of a 64-gallon roll-out cart.

Once you sign up, your name will go on a list to have a roll-out cart distributed to you, pending availability of carts in stock (new ones will be ordered if we run out).

Again, THANK YOU for recycling!

I acknowledge and agree to pay $20.00 for a recycling roll-out cart that will be billed to a forthcoming wastewater bill (i.e. October or November).

I acknowledge and agree that depending on availability and popularity of the recycling awareness campaign, a recycling roll-out cart may not be immediately available if the current stock of carts held by the City is fully distributed on a first come first serve basis. An ongoing roster of interested participants will be compiled from this website and sign-ups documented through City Hall or the City's Street Department. Should the City have to order additional carts, I am willing to wait for my cart when a new shipment of carts arrives for the City to distribute. (Note: the City will make its best effort to keep participants updated on the status of its recycling cart inventory.)

NOTICE: Due to higher than expected demand for recycling roll-out carts, our current inventory of containers is OUT as of 9-15-17! A new shipment of carts has been ordered. However, a delay in delivery is expected due to our supplier’s facility damage caused by Hurricane Harvey. The next shipment is expected to arrive in early October. If you sign up for a recycling roll-out cart, your name will be put on a delivery list and your new roll-out cart will be delivered as we receive a new shipment. Thank your for your participation, patience and understanding!
