SOLID WASTE
The City of Pekin Solid Waste Department includes three divisions, Garbage, Recycling and Yard Waste. The Solid Waste Department picks up solid waste curbside on a weekly basis to single-family dwellings and duplexes. This Department is also responsible for collections of solid waste at all City operated facilities and the containers located along the sidewalks downtown.
The City of Pekin operates a wheeled garbage cart program for the collection of household waste and recycling. You may purchase a tote on the second floor of City Hall. Carts are normally delivered curbside within one to two business days.

Please note that when any of the days below occurs on a weekday, there will be no Garbage, Recycling or Yard Waste pickup on that day. That day's pickup will take place the following day with the remainder of the week being one day behind. Should one of the below days fall on a Saturday or Sunday, Garbage, Recycling or Yard Waste pickup will take place on a regular schedule for that week regardless as to whether City Hall is closed. The days affected by this policy are as follows:
- Memorial Day
- 4th of July
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
- New Year’s Day
