Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals
The City Of Pekin has two separate groups designated to address planning and zoning issues. Questions or comments can be sent to either of these committees through the Inspections Department at (309) 477-2315 or by email to inspectors@ci.pekin.il.us.
Planning Commission
This board is made up of nine (9) citizens appointed by the Mayor and Council to review all new projects, review and amend as necessary the planning and zoning codes, assign zoning classifications to areas, approve special use requests, and then make recommendations to the City Council. The Planning Commission meets every second Wednesday of the month, as needed, at 6:30 PM in the Council Chambers of City Hall at 111 South Capitol Street. Their recommendations are then presented to the City Council at the regularly scheduled meeting on the fourth Monday of the same month.

Zoning Board of Appeals
This board is made up of seven (7) citizens appointed by the Mayor and Council to review requests for variances to the city zoning codes. Their decision is considered final, but an applicant can appeal their request to the City Council if they wish. The Zoning Board of Appeals meets the second Wednesday of every month, as needed, at 5:15 PM in the Council Chambers of City Hall at 111 South Capitol Street. Request for variance applications to reviewed by the ZBA must be submitted no later than fourteen (14) days prior to the scheduled meeting date in order to make that month's agenda. Each application must be accompanied by a check, cash, or money order in the amount of $85.00. Applications are to be turned in at City Hall at the Inspections Department counter.
