Pekin Welcomes new Police Chief John Dossey

Greg NelsonThe Pekin Police Department welcomed our new Chief of Police on Monday, October 26th 2015.

Chief John Dossey has worked in Law Enforcement for over 26 years, recently retiring from Hanover Park Police Department, where he served as a Lieutenant. Chief Dossey obtained an Associates degree in Law Enforcement from Danville area Community College, then earned a Bachelor's degree from Illinois Benedictine in Business Management. Chief Dossey is currently working toward his Master's degree with Columbia College. Chief Dossey has numerous certifications including the completion of the Staff and Command School through Northwestern University.

Chief Dossey is married with three kids, ages 25,22, and 16. We are excited to have Chief Dossey in Pekin, and look forward to serving the citizens of Pekin together under Chief Dossey's leadership.

About the Pekin Police Department

The Pekin Police Department provides assistance and protection of life and property, under the general direction of the City Manager. The department's responsibilities also include the appraisal of Pekin's crime prevention and law enforcement issues and the development of appropriate solutions to meet those needs. This also includes adjusting department methods to better meet the challenges of today's police force.

The department also ensures a friendly and safe community environment through the development, recommendation and administration of the department's operating budget to the City Council. By reviewing and substantiating department funds, and maintaining fiscal controls on department revenues and expenditures, the Pekin Police Department is able to meet the needs of the community.
