Community Programs

Community Policing is an important and vital aspect of crime prevention in any community. It is through community cooperation and planning that we can best ensure quality police services and an organized and effective crime prevention effort.
The Pekin Police Department is pleased to offer a variety of programs to help promote community safety and enhance the role of the department within the community.
Police Station Tours are offered, tours to schools, youth organizations and other community groups. If you would like to arrange a police station tour for your group, please contact the Crime Prevention Office at (309) 477-2340.
Police Explorer Program provides a means by which young men and women (between the ages of 14 and 20) may determine, through actual experience and training, if they would like to pursue a career in law enforcement. Teens learn through lecture and practical experience about the day-to-day operations of the Pekin Police Department, and the skills and education necessary to be a law enforcement officer.
After completing the Police Explorer "Academy," Explorers may continue their relationship with the Pekin Police Department by performing non-hazardous duties around the police station, and participating in ride-alongs with a police officer on a regular tour of duty. If you think you might be interested in the Police Explorer program, call the Pekin Police Department at (309) 478-5300.
The Pekin Police Department also has several other functions and programs which are targeted to help the community:
