Equipment & Apparatus

The Pekin Fire Department uses a wide selection of equipment to get any given job done. Below is a sampling of what they use to keep the City of Pekin and its residents safe.

Engines

Engine_2Engine 2, a 2007 Pierce pumper, is used primarily for fire suppression and auto extrication.  Engine 2 carries all the equipment needed for these tasks.  In addition, Engine 2 is licensed to provide Intermediate Life Support for medical calls as needed.  Engine 2 is at Fire Station 2, located at 14th and Willow Streets. 


engine3Engine 3, a 2016 Alexis pumper, is used primarily for fire suppression and auto extrication.  Engine 3 carries all the equipment needed for these tasks.  In addition, Engine 3 is licensed to provide Intermediate Life Support for medical calls as needed.  Engine 3 is at Fire Station 3, located at 272 Derby Street.

Engine 4, a 2008 Pierce pumper, is used for fire suppression, emergency medical calls, and auto extrication.  Engine 4 carries all the equipment needed for these tasks.  In addition, Engine 4 is licensed to provide Intermediate Life Support for medical calls.  Engine 4 is utilized as needed when front line vehicles are in for maintenance.

Engine 5, a 1997 Pierce pumper, can be called upon to protect the rest of the city when the front line and reserve engines are already at the scene of a fire or when a front line engine is in for service.  


Trucks

Ladder_1Ladder 1, a 2007 Pierce quint, is used for fire suppression, emergency medical calls, and auto extrication.  Ladder 1 also has a 75 foot ladder which is used to reach heights where conventional ladders and smaller trucks would be ineffective.  Ladder 1 is licensed to provide Intermediate Life Support for medical calls on the east side of town.  Ladder 1 at Fire Station 1, located on Court Street. 

LADDER_2Tower 4, a 2000 Pierce quint, has a 100 foot ladder with a platform on the end to reach heights that would be otherwise unreachable with smaller trucks or conventional ladders.  Tower 3 can be used for fire suppression as it also includes firefighting equipment similar to an engine.  Tower 3 is licensed to provide Intermediate Life Support for medical calls as needed, and is located at Station 1 on Court Street.

LADDER_3Ladder 3, is a 2013 Alexis quint, is in service at Station 3.  Ladder 3 has a 75 foot ladder and also carries equipment similar to an engine.  Reserve Ladder 3 is licensed to provide Intermediate Life Support for medical calls as needed.  Ladder 3 at Fire Station 3 located on Derby Street.


Rescues

RESCUE_1Rescue 2 is a 2010 Ford F550 with a custom made Alexis box,  and is  used for emergency medical and motor vehicle accidents.  Rescue 2 carries auto extrication equipment and is licensed to provide Intermediate Life Support for medical calls   Rescue 2 is located at Fire Station 2 located at 14th and Willow Streets.

Brush Truck

Brush 1 is a 2011 Ford F350 and is primarily used to travel across terrain that other vehicles cannot. The Brush truck is designed to extinguish fires in the remote areas of Pekin's extensive park system and surrounding agricultural areas.   Brush 1 is at the Fire Station 1 located on Court Street.


Other

The Hazmat Trailer is available to handle dangerous chemical spills, toxic sites or other areas where chemical or biological cleanup is needed. Pekin's Hazmat team is a member of MABAS Division 42 and services the entire Tazewell County area. The Hazmat trailer is located at Fire Station 1 on Court Street.

The Technical Rescue Trailer is available to handle calls for rope, confined space, trench, and structural collapse rescue situtations.  Pekin's TRT is a member of MABAS Division 42 and services the entire Tazewell County area. The Technical Rescue Trailer is located at Fire Station 1 on Court Street.

The Boat is available for rescue situations along the Illinois River and any other location as needed.  Pekin's rescue boat is also available to neighboring communities as needed.  The Boat is located Fire Station 3 on Derby Street.

Tours and visits are best suited after 4 PM as the crew of the Pekin Fire Department is generally busy during much of the day. For larger visits, such as classes or organizations, scheduled tours are available by calling 309-477-2388.
