Notice to Qualified Building Demolition Contractors

The City of Pekin is releasing this notice to advertise the frequent availability of demolition contracts for qualified building demolition contractors. In most instances, these available contracts are funded through the City’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) received from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. All contract opportunities are listed on the City’s website at https://www.ci.pekin.il.us/government/city_clerk/bids.php.

Contractors interested in bidding on demolition projects funded using CDBG funds must register for a Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) by visiting www.sam.gov. This website is operated by the federal government and processing time varies from several days to several weeks. Due to the anticipated timeframe for processing a registration, contractors interested in bidding on demolition contracts in the future are advised to start the registration process immediately in response to this notice instead of waiting until contract opportunities have been posted.

To get started, simply visit www.sam.gov, click “Get Started” and follow the step-by-step instructions. This is a one-time registration and thereafter you can renew annually in just a few clicks. There is never a fee to register or renew and registering will allow interested contractors to pursue federally-funded contracts not just from the City of Pekin but also from any other entity that expends federal funds.

Contractors that currently hold an assigned Dunn & Bradstreet (DUNS) identifier will still need to register under the new system as use of the DUNS identifier was discontinued on April 4, 2022. If your firm registered at www.sam.gov and received a Commercial and Government Entity (CAGE) code prior to April 4, 2022, you have been automatically assigned the required UEI and will simply provide that identifier within your bid packet where indicated. When locating your assigned UEI, please be sure to verify that your registration status is indicated as “active” and not “expired.” Contractors with federal exclusion or debarment indicators are not eligible to be awarded federally-funded contracts.
