Economic Development

The Economic Development Department coordinates the City’s economic development activities, which include administration of various incentive programs which include:

  • Enterprise Zone
  • Tax Increment Financing (TIF) 
  • Upper Storey Housing Rehabilitation
  • Facade Improvement Loan programs

 The Economic Development Office coordinates new business recruitment and provides retention and expansion assistance to existing enterprises. The Economic Development team serves as business ombudsman, working to maintain the strong relationship between the City and the business community.

The City of Pekin has publicly-owned property available  for development. The Economic Development Department is responsible for promoting and managing these properties.

The City Planner represents the City of Pekin in local and regional economic development partnerships. By working with organizations like the following, the City is able to leverage its efforts to strengthen Pekin's economy.
