Mayor & City Council

FORM OF GOVERNMENT
Pekin is administered by a Council-Manager form of government, with a seven-person City Council. The council consists of a Mayor, elected at large to a four-year term, and six Council Members elected at large to four-year terms.  The City Council decides the direction they would like to see the city to move and determines any goals they would like to see accomplished.  The City Manager is the administrative head of the municipal government and, therefore, is responsible for the efficient administration of all departments and the effective implementation of the policies articulated by the council.

BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS
The City of Pekin welcomes those interested in an appointment to a commission, board, or committee to apply for the position. These public bodies of the City Council are intended to help city government deliver high quality programs and services to the residents of our community and to our visitors. Broad community representation on these groups is crucial to their effectiveness. For a list of current Commissions, Boards, and Committees, please reference the document under Commissions and Boards located here.

For openings on City Commissions, Boards or Committees please check with the City Clerk.  The Application for Appointment to a City Commission, Board, or Committee can be downloaded under Commissions and Boards here.

Each application received will be evaluated by the Mayor, the City Manager, and the department head who works most closely with the commission, board, or committee. If you are selected, the Mayor will propose your appointment at a meeting of the Council subject to ratification by the Council. We will let you know of our decision before the meeting takes place.
