What-is-a-Complete-StreetPlanning Commission today announced they are undertaking a joint study to re-imagine the Derby Street commercial corridor. The study is being conducted to improve understanding of the area’s needs, assets, and opportunities. Aimed at better serving the citizens and businesses who rely on the Debry Street Corridor, the study intends to address issues such as walkability, street beautification, parking needs, traffic calming, and safety.  The study also hopes review other issues in the area as part of a comprehensive initiative to improve the quality of life in Pekin. “Derby Street is a thriving commercial corridor and the gateway to southern Pekin,” said City Manager Tony Carson. “This will be the first comprehensive planning study ever taken to address the unique challenges that make this street vital to the Pekin community.”

The request for proposals (RFP) will remain open until August 18 at 4:00 p.m. All qualified applicants are welcome are encouraged to apply. The $25,000 study is being funded through Tri-County Regional Planning Commission’s Special Projects Fund with a 10% match by the City of Pekin.
